    ছায়া ছোট শহরের এক প্রান্তে ছায়াঘেরা গাছপালা দিয়ে ঘেরা একটি আবাসিক স্কুল – নবদিগন্ত বিদ্যানিকেতন । বিশাল বিল্ডিং সাথে স্কুলের পরিবেশ ছিল শান্ত, পরিচ্ছন্ন আর শিক্ষাবান্ধব। শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকারা পড়ানোয় নিষ্ঠাবান, আর ছাত্ররাও সাধারণত ভদ্র ও পড়ুয়াভাবে পরিচিত। এই স্কুলেরই দশম শ্রেণির ছাত্র আরমান । বইয়ের পাতায় ছিল তার গভীর মনোযোগ, কিন্তু জীবনের পাতায় সে ছিল একটু চুপচাপ, একটু একাকী। পড়াশোনায় বরাবরই ভালো, নম্র, কিন্তু মিশুক বলা যাবে না। কারণ হয়তো তার পারিবারিক বাস্তবতা — মা-বাবা দুজনেই বিদেশে থাকতেন বহু বছর ধরে।  আরমান  বড় হয়েছে দাদু-ঠাম্মার কাছে, আর তারপর থেকে সে থাকছে এই স্কুলের হোস্টেলে। হোস্টেল জীবনে অনেকেই মিশে গেলেও, অরমান যেন মিশতেই পারে না ঠিকভাবে। ছেলেরা ক্রিকেট খেলে, হোস্টেলের টিভি রুমে গলা ছেড়ে গান গায়, রাতে দেরি করে গল্প করে, কিন্তু অরমান থাকে তার বই আর ডায়েরির দুনিয়ায়। মন খুলে বলার কেউ নেই। অথচ মনের ভেতরে জমা হয় শত শত কথা। ঠিক তখনই, হঠাৎ যেন আলোর রেখার মতো এলেন অনিরুদ্ধ স্যার — সদ্য নিয়োগপ্রাপ্ত ইংরেজি শিক্ষক । বয়সে তরুণ, চেহারায় আত্মবিশ্বাস, কথায় এক আশ্চর্...

    মুখোশ (The Mask)   কলকাতার এক পুরনো গলির মধ্যে, ল্যাম্পপোস্টের নিচে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকে এক যুবক—অয়ন। তার চোখে চশমা, মুখে হালকা দাড়ি, এবং সবসময় পরনে একটা কালো কোট। কিন্তু তার সবচেয়ে অদ্ভুত ব্যাপার—সে মানুষের চেহারা দেখে চিনতে পারে না। মানে, সে ঠিকভাবে মুখ মনে রাখতে পারে না। এই রোগটার নাম ‘ফেস ব্লাইন্ডনেস’ বা Prosopagnosia । কিন্তু অয়নের কাহিনি শুধু রোগের নয়, এটা আত্মপরিচয়ের। অয়ন ছিল একজন শিল্পী। ছোটবেলা থেকেই ছবি আঁকার প্রতি তার ছিল এক অদ্ভুত টান। মুখ আঁকতে পারত না, কিন্তু অনুভূতি আঁকত—চোখের বিষাদ, ঠোঁটের কাঁপুনি, চিবুকের ব্যথা। অয়নের প্রতিটি ছবি ছিল যেন একটি আত্মা। একদিন, একটি মেয়ের সঙ্গে পরিচয় হয়—নাম রিমা । রিমা ছিল স্পষ্টভাষী। অয়নকে দেখে সে বলেছিল, "তুমি মুখ না চিনলেও, মনের চেহারা কি আঁকতে পারো?" এই এক প্রশ্ন অয়নের ভিতর কিছু জাগিয়ে তোলে। দু’জনে বন্ধুত্ব করে। রিমা প্রায়শই আসে অয়নের স্টুডিওতে, কথা বলে, গল্প করে, গান গায়। অয়ন তার ছবি আঁকে—কিন্তু মুখ নয়, রিমার কণ্ঠ, রিমার অনুভব, রিমার ‘চরিত্র’। একদিন রিমা বলে, “অয়ন, তুমি হয়তো আমায় চিনবে না ভিড়ের মাঝে, কিন্তু আমি চিরকাল থ...

 জীবনের চলার পথে বহু ঘাত পতিঘাতের সম্মুখিন হলেও, আপন্নতের উপভোগ এক অনন্নতা সৃষ্টি করে।  কোন কিছুকে একান্ত আপন করে পাওয়ার আনন্দ তেমনি অনন্নতার রুপক। এক নিরবিছিন্ন জীবনের সুখের প্রলেপ  এতটাই ক্ষীণ যে অল্পতেই ঘনীভূত হয়ে নিজ অস্তিতের লয় করে।       আজকের ঘটনার কেন্দ্রবিন্দু তুহিন ,  ক্লাসের সব থেকে নড়বড়ে ছেলে। সবার পিছনে দাঁড়িয়ে সবার হ্যাঁ তে হ্যাঁ মিলানো ওর গুণ ছিল। নিজের মত দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করার কথা ভাবনাতে আসলেও প্রকাশ করার ক্ষমতা ছিল না; কারণ তাঁকে সবার সামনে অপদস্ত হতে হয়েছিল আগেরবার। তাই আর সাহস করে বলে উঠতে পারেনি।  নিজের মনের কথা গুল চেপে রেখে দিত, ভয় ছিল যদি কারোকে বলি আর সেটা নিয়ে  কেউ উপহাস করে বসে, তাই নিজের মধ্যে বাঁচতে শুরু করেছিল। এই ভাবেই কেটে গেল কতগুলো বছর। চুপ করে থাকাটা এক সময় অভ্যাসে পরিণত হল।  দিন দিন সে উপলব্ধি করতে থাকে যে তার উপস্থিত গুণ আর অর্জিত জ্ঞান কোন কাজের উপযোগী না। হয়তো তার জীবনের পরন্ত গোধূলির উপস্থিতি ক্ষণিক দূরে বাস করছে। পড়াশুনাটাও ততোটা ভাল চলছিলো না। পড়াশুনা থেকে সড়ে দাঁড়ানোর ইচ্ছা থাকলেও ক্ষমতা ...
